Protest
Romanian film funding system works at the moment on the basis of the cinema law. The films which are programmed in this festival, as well as the films that have been presented and awarded during the past few years in prestigious international festivals, were all produced with the support of the same law: O.G 39 / 2005.
On May 17th 2010, the Romanian Senate voted, in majority, a new law initiative coming from the social-democrate senator, Sergiu Nicolaescu. This fact, among with other measures, in total disagreement with the current European legislation, aims to make Romanian cinema to go back to a centralized and outdated system, without any objective criteria for the evaluation of the projects. Instead of a selection based on quantifiable elements – such as the quality of the script, of the producer and of the director, the audience and box office success – this new proposal aims a discretionary evaluation of the projects.
We are facing the risk that Romanian cinema will go back in time, 15 years ago instead of moving forward.
This new law proposal initiated by senator Nicolaescu will be discussed by the Culture Commission of the Chamber of Deputies during next week, before the final vote.
The following persons protest publicly and demand the rejection of this initiative.
