TIFF SIBIU
Film, music and literature nights at TIFF Sibiu 2011
One of the surprises of TIFF Sibiu 2011 is the project The Weary Death - an imaginary journey accompanied by music and literary suggestions, to which the public in Sibiu can be a part of on Friday, June 17, at 8.00 p.m., at Gong Theatre. The film Der müde Tod / The Weary Death (Germany, 1921, d. Fritz Lang) will be screened with a live performance by Einuea and accompanied by a poetic recital from Emil Botta's work.
Arrived at an inn in a small German village, two lovers suddenly encounter Death. Personified by a lonely stranger, Death abducts the fiance and sequesters him behind a huge doorless, windowless wall, close to the cemetery. Trying to save him, the young girl finds an entrance, after a dream-like vision. Death is waiting for her beyond the wall, granting her three chances to save her lover, each lasting as long as a lit candle. The lady becomes a woman in Persia, in Venice and in China, and in all situations she fails to save her respective lover. Death gives her one last chance, if she manages to find within one hour a person in the village that could give up living. The parts taking place in Persia, Italy, China and Germany offer Einuea the opportunity to use folk inspired musical motifs, but also to imagine original and improvised fragments, highlighted by Emil Botta's metaphoric poetry.
Another special event at TIFF Sibiu 2011 is the screening of the silent film The Man with a Camera (Soviet Union, 1929, d. Dziga Vertov), programmed on Saturday, June 18, at 9.30 p.m., at Music Pub. The film follows a cameraman traveling around a city with a camera slung over his shoulder, documenting urban life with dazzling inventiveness. DJ Dubase and DJ Leizaboy will perform live during the screening.
Thursday, June 16, 2011, starting 9.00 p.m., the well-known artist Goran Bregovic will appear before the audience in the Central Square, alongside Wedding and Funeral Orchestra, in a show meant to celebrate the relationship between music and film. The concert will be followed by the screening of The Bear, directed by Dan Chișu, whose soundtrack is signed by Goran Bregovic. The ticket price for the two events taking place in Central Square is 15 RON.
The tickets can be bought at TIFF Info Point (Central Square, Unirii Square, Bvd. Nicolae Bălcescu, Bvd. Victoriei), Gong Theatre, Music Pub, Hotel Ibis, Casa Luxemburg, Atrium Classic Café, Café Wien, Einstein Café, Info Point Huet Square and online, on www.tiff.ro.
