JTI Brings Dance to TIFF.24, with a Film Inspired by Ravel’s Boléro and a Performative Installation by Gigi Căciuleanu

As every year, JTI brings dance-centered events to the Transilvania International Film Festival (June 13–22, 2025). On June 16, at 6:30 PM, a special screening of Boléro (dir. Anne Fontaine) will take place at the Student Culture House, marking 150 years since the birth of Maurice Ravel.

The film tells the story of the famous musical piece composed by Ravel at the request of dancer Ida Rubinstein, who was searching for someone to write the music for her next ballet. This led to the creation of Boléro, one of the most beloved musical scores in history.

Throughout TIFF.24, audiences can experience the project LUVsLUV in the foyer of the Student Culture House—a performative installation filmed in virtual reality, created by Gigi Căciuleanu.

Four characters—dance-actors from the Gigi Căciuleanu Romania Dance Company—perform in four timeless spaces: A COUPLE (Lelia Marcu-Vladu and Bogdan Iacob), SHE (Ana Iacob), and HE (Lari Giorgescu). Remarkable in its evocative power, Gigi Căciuleanu’s performance is a tender exploration of human passions.

“a SHE and a HE / a HE or a SHE

a SHE without HE / a HE without SHE...

...We all go through the passing years

Carrying in heart and in mind

Like in a mirror that lies

The story of the eternal apple...

...Because in the end, love is

A weaving of solitudes into the same story…”
